In its most simplistic contemporary definition a wizard is one who is supposed to have or who is believed to have magical or wonder-working powers or somebody who is extremely clever at or knowledgeable about something or extraordinarily skilled in a particular way and refers to anyone who has a seemingly magical skill
A wizard is, literally, a wise person (from the 15th century Middle English wysard) and is referred to as the “Knowing one” or the “Wise one”.
How wizards differentiate themselves
There are many personalities however that claim to have magical capabilities like magicians, sorcerers, shamans, witches etc. Wizards distinguish themselves in that they depend on intensive study to create their magick. Magick is for a Wizard not a talent but a deliberate rewarding art. Wizards are also known to be a bit more status conscious. Wizards are not the male form of witches although they share many similarities. Wizards are less dependent on rituals, paraphernalia and location for their magick.

More esoterically the Wizard is a person who causes reality from the inside out – by taking control over what goes on inside his head, the wizard takes control of what goes on outside of it. Everything a wizard sees has its roots in the unseen world. A wizard is somebody who possesses exceptional discipline and knowledge, through which he/she can cause an asynchronous external influence. This knowledge although accessible to everybody is not accessed by everybody because they are not willing to sacrifice the time and effort needed to master the skills of the Wizard. A Wizard exercise this internal discipline to bring his reality in conformance with his will
The wizard practices to perceive that which can not be seen by the eye. The primary knowledge of the wizard is to understand the essential unity between man and the universe. A wizard is able to effect changes in consciousness at will. Internally a wizard is somebody who commits himself to use his knowledge for personal growth leading to self-mastery. He nurtures the ability to perceive truths from various perspectives and integrate it into every aspect of his being. The Wizard takes responsibility for his own reality and continually develops his sense of right action within the context of his reality. The wizard strives towards being impeccable in everything he does – even in trifling matters. The wizard’s first aim is harmony and balance between mind, heart and body on all levels of existence. He aims to transforms his being to be totally integrated and in unity with his will. The wizard becomes the gateway through which universal energy flows by being open, sensitive and in sync with the universe.
A wizard sees himself as somebody with individual purpose in life, purpose that guides the development of his inner being and he cultivates the powers needed to fulfil his purpose. A wizard’s individual purpose however frees him from accomplishing anything for him and concerns him with a universal purpose aimed at the development of man’s potential as individuals.
The external wizard perspective
Externally wizards dislike of direct interference with other people's affairs they rather help through persuasion and encouragement. They do however accept the task to serve before mankind an expression of a sense and purpose of existence in accord with the time and place are which it is uttered and the admonition of peoples and their temporal and spiritual leaders at moments when the line of human evolution in a given locality is threatened. They give to people the power of confidence through their presence by establishing hope in what is possible and assisting people to see beyond what is, to what could be….so that people can unlock their own individuality and potential. As a result wizards act as channels for new influences in human life by presenting new empowering perspectives and opportunities as a means for personal transformation to all that come within the sphere of their influence.

A Wizard is an individual independently apart from the universe and simultaneously fully merged into universal individuality. For a Wizard time and space are merged into eternity and hyparxis so that the actual and the potential are not divided as they are for existential man and events are not restraint within the limits of successive realizations.
